Play Time With Nephew

My little nephew Raphael is 3 and loves to play basketball. When getting him excited to play a game with me I yelled “Im gonna whoop your tail in basketball!” His eyes widened and he said “ No your not!” and ran out of the room. He then came back with his toy Tigger and said “ Whoop Tigger’s tail I don’t have one! See?” Then he turned around. This interaction showed figurative language and the not so firm grasp on literal meanings of certain words.

Malika,
I bet your nephew is adorable! I have 3 nephews myself, and 1 on the way! I think this was a great example of how figurative language can me misunderstood when used before the child has a firm grasp on it. I enjoyed reading about your playtime with your nephew! :)
