An interesting lecture from my SED 104 class
Good evening everyone! I hope everyone had a good labor day weekend. In my SED 104 class today, we were learining about students, who were bilingual and were from different cultures. We also discussed about how different cultures communicate differently than others. For example, a Japanese person crossed their arms and closed their eyes indicated that the person was listening, but to others it indicated that the person was asleep.

I also am taking SED 104 and learned that as well. That is very interesting!
I am excited to see how students continue to make connections between their courses and to the real world. This is a sign of learner who truly is in tune to the course work and how to make authentic applications!
Knowing and understanding HOW people communicate in this example above is the whole area of pragmatics that we will be studying. One can see how communication barriers can be created, removed or avoided all together when individuals are in tune to communication behaviors.
How interesting! I've seen people do that, but didn't realize it was recognized In their culture as a sign if listening. Eye contact seems to vary from culture to culture altogether. In some cultures, it is a sign of respect, while in other cultures it is entirely unacceptable.
