HEAVEN’S VERY SPECIAL CHILD
Hello to all my fellow Special Education majors, as this
semester progresses and classes keep getting harder, I pulled out an old poem
my dad used to say to me as a child when I had questions about my uncle and why
his cerebral palsy caused him to be different than us. As an adult, I now know
he is not different he just accomplishes the same things in a different
manor. But every night I am up late
doing a paper for an education class, or getting frustrated about a grade I
refer back to this poem which helps me remember that in a couple years, the
grades and schooling won’t matter, only what I apply from my education to help
these very special children succeed and how special of people it takes to
really make a difference in these children's lives. As I continue on with all
my work, I have no doubt in my mind I chose the right major for me, I cannot
wait to see what this major has in store for me and I know all of this hard
work will show in the end! Hope this finds you all well and brings you all
peace and comfort during this difficult semester as well. Also, this poem is very old so please excuse the fact that
it is not written in person first language and/or some of the word phrasing.
HEAVEN’S
VERY SPECIAL CHILD
A
meeting was held quite far from Earth!
It's
time again for another birth.
Said
the Angels to the LORD above,
This
Special Child will need much love.
His
progress may be very slow,
Accomplishments
he may not show.
And
he'll require extra care
From
the folks he meets down there.
He
may not run or laugh or play,
His
thoughts may seem quite far away,
In
many ways he won't adapt,
And
he'll be known as handicapped.
So
let's be careful where he's sent,
We
want his life to be content.
Please
LORD, find the parents who
Will
do a special job for you.
They
will not realize right away
The
leading role they're asked to play,
But
with this child sent from above
Comes
stronger faith and richer love.
And
soon they'll know the privilege given
In
caring for their gift from Heaven.
Their
precious charge, so meek and mild,
Is
HEAVEN'S VERY SPECIAL CHILD.
