Taylor Browning

Hey Everyone! My name is Taylor Browning. My major is Special Education LBD and I am a sophomore. I'm from a small town about 20 minutes away called Winchester. I've lived there all my life but now am living in Richmond and still trying to find my way around!
My interest in Special Education sparked my senior year of high school when I took a peer tutoring class which was focused on helping the students in the school who had disabilities. Plus, my mother was an assistant teacher in an LBD classroom for a few years, so I guess it just runs in the family!

I love it when I hear students say that the peer tutoring classes sparked their interest in teaching! One of the branches in my division here at KDE is teacher recruitment. Any other thoughts on the class?

The peer tutoring class? Oh, I thought it was so eye opening. Honestly, I took the class because I knew it would be an easy credit and a few of my friends were taking it. When we got there we each were assigned to a couple students and took them to classes. I was with two boys who were two of the funniest and friendly people I've ever met. Being able to just hangout with them and see how carefree they were was amazing and it became my favorite class in no time! The moment I decided I really wanted to become a Special Ed teacher was when one of the students was asked to make his own chicken nuggets for the first time, and he did, flawlessly! The expression on his face was priceless. I've never seen someone so proud of themselves in my life. That's when I knew I wanted to be able to witness that type of reaction for the rest of my life. :)
