Language Project/Fall Break

Hey, I hope everyone is enjoying their fall break! I have conducted my language sample earlier  today. The kids enjoyed my company while I was collecting the sample. Unfortunately, because my iPhone only has a certain amount of memory capacity, I could only record 46 min. of it...I just hope it is enough for me to have 100 utterances for my project. I also hope that everyone is doing okay on their project.

LANGUAGE PROJECT

When is the due date for our language project? I looked in my folder and couldn't remember if it was pushed back a week or kept the original date.

Special Needs Chili Dinner

Tonight I went to a chili cook off in Berea supporting the special olympics.  I purposefully found someone with special needs and sat by him.  He was so happy to have someone to talk to, and he sure talked my leg off :) He was telling me of his accomplishments; winning regionals in bowling and a bronze medal for softball.  He was worried about the victims of hurricane Sandy, and was writing his christmas cards already.  Special humans are amazing, I tried to say hi to every member of the special olympics I could find.

Self-Scored Rubric? HELP!

HELP! Can you guys help me clear up my confusion about the self-scored rubric..

Do we use the rubric given on Blackboard to Self-Score?
..Do we just highlight the point value for how we believe we did on the assignment..?

..I'm just not exactly sure what to do for that, and since it is due tomorrow.. 11/2..
I want to make sure I do this correctly.

Thanks for any help I can get! Have a good day!

Raising Autism Awareness

Raising awareness of Autism is extremely important. I want to use this blog post to brag on a  mom from my hometown that has made it her mission to help her son and others with Autism find their voice. She has currently organized two walks to raise Autism awareness in our community. In 2011, 600 people walked. In 2012, nearly 3100 participated in the walk. The goal of the groups fundraising was to raise enough money to buy 11 iPads for  the public school speech therapists. Such great support came that 36 iPads were purchased for school use! This woman is a great inspiration to all. The passion she has to help her son and others is amazing! The video below tells the story of her son and family. Enjoy!

Dancing Wheels Company

This past week EKU hosted the Dancing Wheels Company. I went to watch the recital and it moved me to tears. It was such a beautiful thing to watch these dancers and see that everyone can be included in such a beautiful form of art, I included a video so you all can see what is it about but definitely check them out online and don't hesitate to ask me more about it if you have questions, they travel all around and I hope you all are lucky enough to see them dance one day because they are absolutely wonderful!

My ASL instructor had us watch this a couple of weeks ago and write a review about it. Watch it and see what you think.

Funny language story

Hey guys!

So this past weekend, I was babysitting my three cousins. My mom came over to help out (since they are a handful) :). As we were about to leave, my 2 year old cousin Macy was mad at me because we were leaving. She went up to my mom and said, "Linds is being uncooperative." As soon as she said that I kept thinking back to our powerpoint on what they "should" be saying when they are 2 years old. Obviously, she is picking up her vocabulary from someone else :)

Thought you guys might enjoy that story!

See you tonight!
